By plane

The nearest major airports are Leeds Bradford, Newcastle and Manchester. It is easy to get a train from Manchester Airport to either York or Thirsk which are taxi distance from Oldstead. All three airports have hire cars and taxis available.

By train

Oldstead is close to both Thirsk and York train stations on the East Coast main line where trains operate regularly between London and Edinburgh. Thirsk station is around 10 miles from us. You can view train timetables and routes via Trainline here.

It is always advisable to book a taxi in advance – from Thirsk we recommend Cumfy Cabs 07974 200336 and JEB Taxis 07973 443169. Trains stop in York more frequently than Thirsk. York is 20 miles away and there are usually taxis available at the station.

By car

Please read the instructions below carefully before starting your journey to us:

The 3 word address is /// fonts.trend.signed

This 3 word address points to the exact entrance and is more accurate than the street address. Before you travel, download the free what3words app. Type in the 3 word address, including the dots, to see the precise location. To navigate there, tap the ‘Directions’ icon and select a navigation app. If you have data, we recommend Google Maps.

COMMON SAT NAV NEED TO KNOW

Systems set to use the nearest main road will approach from Thirsk via the A170 and lead you to climb up Sutton Bank only to almost immediately descend back down White Horse Bank. This takes considerably longer than our directions above as it involves very steep and narrow roads and is not recommended.

By taxi

There are no taxis in Oldstead – the nearest taxi companies are located around 10 miles away, so if you need transport it is really important to pre-book well in advance.

We recommend allowing around 3 hours to enjoy the tasting menu.
