The North York Moors National Park has the largest expanse of heather moorland in England.

 

North Yorkshire Moors Railway (20 miles)

The magnificent steam engines, beautiful rural stations and smartly uniformed staff, a visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is like taking a step back in time.

 

Pickering (20 miles)

This historic market town is also the start of the Moors Railway. Park here then take the steam train to Levisham, Goathland, Grosmont and finally Whitby.

 

Hutton le Hole (20 miles)

 Hutton le Hole is a very pretty village home to The Rydale Folk Museum.

 

Goathland (30 miles)

The beautiful village of Goathland is known by millions as the setting of ITVs Heartbeat series. Well worth a stop off when travelling on the North York Moors Railway.

 

 

Whitby (40 miles)

Whitby is dominated by the cliff-top ruins of the beautiful 13th century Whitby Abbey. This traditional maritime town, with its old cobbled streets, picturesque houses and sandy blue flag beach is a great place for a day out. Whitby is set among fine stretches of coast with spectacular cliffs, beaches and bays.
