The Kilburn White Horse is a large figure covering over an acre of land which was carved into the hillside overlooking the Vale of York in 1857. The Horse is 304ft long and 228ft high and can be seen from 40 miles away. The Banks family here at The Black Swan and Oldstead Grange have all been involved in the maintenance of the Horse following our forebears from four generations earlier who took part in the construction.
The White Horse is an ideal stop off when walking from the Black Swan. Detailed walking notes are available in the bar. Alternatively you can park at the feet of the Horse and take the steps to the top to enjoy the view of The Vale of York and even the Pennines on a fine day.
